This morning I walked down from my house in Tiong Bahru bright and early to a Sunrise Yoga session at Ziva Yoga (Ziva being Sanskrit for Bliss). Placed on the corner of Zion and Seng Poh Road, Ziva Yoga is a single story studio in a great location. Throughout the week, from 7am till as late as 8:30pm, Ziva Yoga offers a range of yoga classes of various styles, room temperatures and specialities such as Prenatal, Kids and Therapeutic based classes. Their sessions are designed for all experience and flexibility levels, and are instructed clearly with an emphasis on moving at your own pace.
Extended twists and posture corrections
This morning’s session was run by Jenny who instructed the class through a Vinyasa style flow. As a non-hot class, the flow was based on flexibility and posture, with an extended period of twists to open up the chest and spine. By incorporating core and hip–flexing components, it felt like a huge wake up call to my joints and did wonders for my breathing. The class wasn’t as intense as others I’ve tried so it is fantastic for beginners, or people who are looking to yoga as more of a relaxation.

Yoga is widely known to improve breathing, build muscle strength and prevent injury in its low-impact mindful poses, and is a perfect way to centre yourself in both your physical and mental state. Classes like these are fantastic in the mornings for this reason.
