Sweat-proof makeup – does it actually work?

If you’ve ever been stuck in the position of dripping foundation, smudged mascara or blurry eyeliner, you’ll understand the need for bulletproof, no-fuss sweat proof makeup. Whether this is during a workout, walking around outside or generally from living in a hot climate, sweating through your chiseled contour or that perfect winged-eye is the furthest thing from okay.
Also, finding products that don’t clog up your pores during this process is a struggle in itself.
Seeing as though we provide you with workout classes on GuavaPass, we thought we might as well give you the sweat-proof makeup products to get you in and out of a workout looking your best, ready to take on the rest of the day. So we put some products to the test on our very own instructors at STILL Boxing. We got to see first hand which products stuck and which suck.

Coating your face with liquid foundations or thick powders is very difficult to manage, even with the best sweat proof makeup. Instead, opt for a Blotting Powder like the Laura Geller Matte Maker Invisible Oil Blotting Powder to remove signs of oil build up whilst still keeping that fresh dewy look. Products like this low maintenance powder the best thing to use if you’re looking to keep your skin looking fresh all workout long.
Wanting to keep some colour in your skin before or after your workout? A little bit of blush can go a long way, especially if you’re after that flushed skin look. Blush is a perfect way to add some life to your face, no matter how tired or pale you’re feeling. The Daniel Sandler Watercolour Crème Blusher in Sunset was the winner in the ring today. There were no streak lines or fading in the colour whatsoever. The colour was also perfect on a number of people who tried it on, showing its versatility in matching skin tones.
Stepping out of a class looking like a panda who’s just had a breakup is usually unavoidable with most mascaras. Even some waterproof brands can’t hold the test of sweat and exercise. Not to mention you leave the class with only remnants of your previously lengthy and luscious eyelashes in place. In comes the seemingly bulletproof Lord & Berry Scuba Pro Waterproof Black Mascara in Black Wardrobe, which really did hold up throughout a 60-minute HIIT boxing class. No smudging, no flaking, and pretty much no changes from the original application.
I don’t know how well eyeliner goes with an intense workout, but usually, this product is skipped because of the high chance it won’t last past the first 15 minutes. One product we did find worked was the Lord & Berry Ink Glam Liquid Eye Liner in Black. Our trainer, Jamie, lined her lash line with a thin wing, giving her a clean yet slightly done up look for the class ahead, and it stayed like that the entire duration!

Lipstick and lip gloss is hard with workouts. It’s not just about it being sweat proof, but it needs to be durable enough to withstand drinking from your bottle, wiping your face, and throughout the hour of heavy breathing and exerting yourself. This is why we went with a lip tint, more specifically the Skin79 Color Capture Water Tint. Lip tints are great because they act like a second skin on your lips, almost impossible to wipe away or fade. Skin79’s Tint is a perfect little tool to keep in your exercise bag, just make sure your lips aren’t chapped beforehand otherwise you’ll experience some flaking.
