“Practicing yoga improves your sex life” – this statement is thrown around a lot in men’s health magazines and on various yoga forums, claiming the practice provides incredible results in stamina, performance and endurance. But where do these claims come from?
The idea that yoga is regarded as a woman’s practice couldn’t be further from the truth. Men can benefit greatly from this practice in their strength, clarity of mind and especially in their performance in the bedroom.
1. Yoga boosts testosterone and lowers cortisol
Cortisol and testosterone are two different hormonal messengers produced by the body. Cortisol is produced in times of stress and is responsible for elevating blood glucose levels in fight-or-flight situations to provide quick energy.
Testosterone, on the other hand, is responsible for a number of bodily functions, including the development and maintenance of masculine physical and behavioral traits.
Cortisol and testosterone are interrelated in such a way that when levels of cortisol in the body are high, testosterone production becomes low. Yoga and meditation help maintain optimal testosterone levels by reducing stress levels.
In studies observing this change in hormone levels, it was found that after a number of sessions, male patients’ stress and cortisol levels were significantly lowered, and in turn, their testosterone levels were elevated. Not only that, doing yoga and meditation trains individuals to have a high tolerance to common stressors, thereby preventing cortisol levels from rising more frequently.
2. Yoga increases your sex drive
As a result of this increase in testosterone, your libido will also improve. In addition to that, testosterone doesn’t just affect your sex drive and performance, but also the level of satisfaction you receive. In fact, low testosterone can even cause erectile dysfunctions.
3. Yoga improves your physique
Yoga also helps with fat metabolism and digestion. The movements involved massage the intestinal tract promote good bowel movement and digestion of food. It also tones and conditions your muscle in places that would normally be hard to isolate with regular weight lifting.
Strengthening of the core is also a main benefit from practicing yoga, and aside from having chiseled abs, yoga improves flexibility whilst encouraging muscle size development. Combined with the physical strains of doing twists and transitioning from one yoga pose to another, the practice would eventually promote an overall leaner and more limber body.
4. Yoga improves performance
The combination of higher testosterone levels, a stronger core and increased strength and stamina makes yoga one of the best workouts to increase your performance in the bedroom. Couple that with improved flexibility and an increased libido, yoga could be the answer to all your problems!
5. Yoga improves confidence
The muscle development and overall strength gained from doing yoga will increase your confidence on a physical level, but the mental clarity and focus will improve your self-assurance like no other workout.
With yoga and meditation, you can train your mind to view things from another perspective. You can condition your focus to only be on the important things day to day. These activities also give a sense of greater personal power to fully deal with situations of high emotion or stress.
Over time, yoga has some incredible effects on posture, making you walk taller and prouder further exuding confidence.
6. Yoga improves self-control and discipline
Being aware of your body and in control of your emotions is crucial for performance in the bedroom, and is also two main by-products of practicing yoga. It helps you limit distractions and trains the brain to focus on the task at hand.
By doing yoga and meditation, you can stay in the moment and cast away any negative brain chatter.
7. Yoga makes you more relaxed
It’s true that aggressiveness is associated with men, but being aggressive bordering on violent is no way to live. Instead of being high-strung, you can be the epitome of coolness and benefit from being able to respond calmly to any adverse situations. Being calm and collected further adds to your character and performance.
8. Yoga makes you more positive
When stressed out you can sometimes come across as intense and competitive – some of the worst traits in a potential partner. Practicing yoga allows you to channel this intensity in a positive manner. Recycling this energy into something positive will give you useful lessons in managing your own thought processes and take control of your happiness. Positive people attract positive partners!
