One Step Towards Building Sustainability through Nutrition – GuavaPass’ take on PurelyB’s Nourish Heal Glow Programme
On a personal level, being part of the GuavaPass community which strongly emphasises healthy and sustainable living, it is extremely important for me to compliment my active fitness lifestyle with a balanced and wholesome nutritional diet.
Understandably, there are a dozen factors that may come in the way of our fitness and nutritional goals. There is no time! Or it is way too expensive to only eat healthy meals? That is when I decided to challenge myself and commit to PurelyB’s Nourish Heal Glow Programme, a 28-day detailed and guided programme that is designed Certified Nutrition & Health Coach, Carina Lipold, to help busy individuals attain their nutritional goals in an easy, delicious and affordable way.
If you are feeling overwhelmed or confused about how to begin, the programme is a perfect way to start your healthy sustainable journey without promoting the unhealthy habits such as skipping meals. It offers a variety of healthy delicious snacks as well as desserts!
Understandably, most people have reservations about nutritional programmes because they typically entail unfamiliar ingredients that are not easy to find or not carried by our local supermarkets. With this programme, however, the detailed recipes and grocery lists were customised to the everyday Malaysian’s grocery list. A major perk was that I was able to cook and consume my favourite classic Asian dishes without breaking the bank!
The programme also informs us of the fundamental nutrition knowledge of monosodium glutamate (MSG), trans fats, macronutrients and educates us on how to decipher product labels.
The Nourish Heal Glow programme also differs from the traditional health programmes as it includes videos and quizzes on each segment of the week. The programme encourages you to journal your progress too. I found it to be an interactive way that enables you to understand and acquire knowledge in the most simple way. It highlights the philosophy of “Not one size fits all” through food swapping.
Allergic to honey?
Swap for maple syrup, coconut sugar or stevia.
Not a fan of buckwheat flour?
Swap for coconut flour or almond meal.
You’re vegan?
No problem!
As a vegan advocate myself, I found the overall programme to be flexible and accommodating especially in terms of sticking to the easy, quick and affordable way lifestyle. In fact, the vegan recipes and ingredients are just as accessible in our local supermarkets (contrary to belief) and affordable! Get your creativity going in a healthy fun way.
Overall, balance is the key. There will be the occasional setbacks at social engagements, when traveling and when on a tight budget but the important thing is to remain conscious of your lifestyle so as to be able to regain that momentum and progress. Life may be stressful at times but every day is a new day and an opportunity to be the best version of yourself. So, do take advantage of it!
According to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, heart diseases, Alzheimer’s and Diabetes are among one of the top diseases that plague the Malaysian population. Education and awareness is still very much needed in our society. As the saying goes “prevention is better than cure” so here’s to taking loving and taking care ourselves through exercising and nourishing our body!
