My workouts are normally focused on weightlifting and circuit training but I have decided to focus more on balance, flexibility and a new type of strength this month and turned to workouts such as Yoga, Pilates, and Pole dancing through GuavaPass.
So what classes did I attend?
- Get in Shape at Yoga House
- Yoga Stretch at Karma Yoga
- SBarre at Vivafit Dubai
- Swing Yoga at Strong Ladies Physical Fitness Gym
- Pole all levels at Pole Fit Dubai – Aerial Arts Academy
- Pilates Mat all levels at Yoga La Vie
- Pilates Mat at Naya Yoga & Pilates
- Hatha Yoga at Yoga Ashram
- Piloga Tone at Piloga
- Body flex at Pole Fit Dubai – Aerial Arts Academy
- Circuit Training at FIT23 Wellness Hub
- Fire core mat at Pilates Academy
- Pound Fit at Iconic Fitness
I had a great experience at all of the above classes! However, I did enjoy some more than others and here are some of my favourites:
Get in Shape at Yoga House: This class was a nice challenge and a great combination of yoga and strength. I really felt like my muscles were being challenged – in a whole new way – while still getting a nice stretch and being more mindful of my movement and breathing. Expect a lot of repetitions of challenging yoga positions, long holds and some muscles shaking! I got a good sweat on and would definitely go again.
Pilates Mat at Naya Yoga & Pilates: First thing I liked about this small studio is the vibe! I walked in and immediately felt positive vibes and was excited to get on the mat. The class was appropriate for all levels, very well structured with a big focus on form and appropriate modifications. It was a nice strength workout that left me feeling nice and toned and wanting more!
Hatha Yoga at Yoga Ashram: It was my first time ever doing Hatha Yoga and wasn’t sure what to expect. This class was a mental bliss. It’s a great class for beginners, very gentle and slow. The breathing and the poses really helped me reach a meditative state I have never experienced before. Attention was given to our postures in the poses and our breathing. I left feeling very relaxed and peaceful and could definitely use this class to disconnect from the world once a week.
Body flex at Pole Fit Dubai – Aerial Arts Academy: This class was focused on front splits, which was perfect for me as one of my 2018 goals is to get my splits back, something I have lost through lifting weights and having tighter muscles. The class was very challenging for tight muscles. There was a great deal of warming up the muscles involved to avoid injury and then we got down to business. A lot of stretching positions, a lot of pushing, grunting and then an attempt at front splits! It was exactly what I needed and left me feeling all stretched but sore. I am definitely going back because front splits are goals!
Pound Fit at Iconic Fitness: This is definitely the most interesting class I have tried this month. It included plastic drumsticks (How cool?!) to help us rock it! In this class, you become the music in a full body workout. It’s like dancing to the beat of the music following a choreographed workout, making music with your drumsticks and burning loads of calories. By the end of the workout, we had done 700-800 squats and burned around 600 calories (according to my Fitbit). It was a lot of fun and it is highly recommended.
