Studio: Coastal Fitness HK @coastalfitnesshk
What is your favourite class to teach?
The majority of my work is spent one on one with a client either in house, or via remote programming (overseas and HK based). I also coach and programme for our group fitness programme (Fitness, Performance and Competitor groups), and love the vibe and energy of group classes.
What is your favourite class/workout to do yourself?
I train and compete in the sport of Crossfit, and have done so for the last 4 years. I have a Coach who is based in the US who writes my programme daily. I genuinely love any form of physical activity, and love anything that which physically or mentally humbles me.
What is a motto you live by?
You create your own luck.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Time travel, past and future. That needs no further explanation!

Studio: Topfit (@topfit)
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
Before Topfit I was working as a freelance PT in Hong Kong.
What is your favourite class to teach?
I enjoy our Curves Ahead class. There are so many female-focused classes out there now that limit clients to pointless bodyweight exercises and moves that aren’t actually effective. I like to point out which exercises are useless and which ones will really transform a client’s appearance.
What is your favourite workout to do yourself?
My favourite training day is back day. As it’s a body part that’s harder to track progress by yourself, it forces me to go extra hard when training it.
What is a motto you live by?
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Anyone can commit themselves to one month of training. What impresses me are those that keep at it day in, day out, with no excuses.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
The ability to regenerate after an injury. As I get older it’s becoming more evident that it takes longer to recover.

Studio: HIT45 (@hit45hk)
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
I was in London running three jobs. I was a freelance personal trainer to celebrities. At night, I worked in hospitality and clubs. I would look after people and host for them in nightlife. My third job was working for the Amy Winehouse Foundation and the Prince’s trust. I went to schools/institutions and did talks about self-esteem, positivity, body image, as well as mental health.
What is your favourite class to teach?
My favourite class to teach is HIIT. I love mixing cardio and strength training together. Getting them to sprint on the treadmill and then go back to the floor to do weights. Other than that I am a half marathon runner so I love to teach people how to run.
What is a motto you live by?
Be kind to yourself.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
It would be to cure mental health issues and for also people to spread awareness more or even break the stigma around it. These issues are a big part of my life and a daily battle for many in the world. Not many people talk about it but it’s very common to suffer. Once the mind is fully healed then the body can be healed too. These both come hand in hand.

What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
Before my position as a coach, I worked as a part-time waiter and front desk receptionist while pursuing my Bachelor’s degree at City University.
What is your favourite class to teach?
My favorite class to teach is DEFINITELY our Sunday Shred workouts at Tamar Park. I love the people, the energy, the tunes, and the UNITY that is felt when everybody is yelling and cursing while trying to complete their last exercise sets. It’s music to my ears.
What is a motto you live by?
The big reward isn’t the six-pack abs or the bulging biceps; rather it’s the character that is built, the knowledge of self, and the friendships and memories that are gained along the way.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Well, I’ve already got super strength and speed, so if I had to choose a superpower it would probably be something silly, like the ability to unscramble eggs. All your friends will be mine.

Studio: Trybe HK (@trybehk)
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
I came from a commerce background but my true passion has always been in sports and fitness, which led me to my current path.
What is your favourite class to teach?
Now I am mostly teaching gymnastic based workouts, from handstands to rings to tumbling, basically, anything movement related training. So for now, it is my favourite class to teach as well as my favourite workout. It involves strength, endurance, flexibility, mobility, and most of all, a LOT of core which I really enjoy. It is intense, exciting and even scary at times, but never boring.
What is a motto you live by?
Do something that scares the hell out of you once in awhile. Calculate the risks, then face that fear with confidence.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
I would like to have the power to stop or even just slow down time. Wouldn’t it be awesome to enjoy the good moments just a little bit more?

What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
I was committed to full time in the corporate world in the finance industry.
What is your favourite class to teach?
Push Your Limits. It’s exactly what it sounds like and so much more. It incorporates the utilization of body weight training, full functional movements, and various equipment for a total mind and body endurance workout. It is guaranteed to be different from any other training you have done before and pushes each and everyone to bring out their inner athlete.
What is a motto you live by?
No matter how tough things get, just keep smiling! It is one of the easiest things you can do to mentally stay positive and push through whatever challenges you may face. If nothing else, you’ll look badass smiling through what others perceive such challenges as unbearable or impossible to accomplish.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Super speed. Growing up, I always wanted to be fast!

Studio: Flex Studio HK (@flexstudiohk)
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
I was a full-time professional dancer (ballet and contemporary dance) though I’m awful on the dance floor!
What is your favourite class to teach?
Depends on my mood really… I usually prefer teaching pilates, however, teaching barre is good fun too. My favourite work out/class… I love a good ballet class, however, these days I’d choose pilates or yoga for myself as conditioning work.
What is a motto you live by?
Work hard/play hard, no pain no gain, living the most while I can, live with no regret… now I think just to be happy and own who you are.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
To be at any place at any time; any part of the world in no time.

Studio: Trybe HK (@trybehk)
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
I was an entertainer in London. I was a promoter and dancer for clubs/events, singer in bands and weddings. When I left the UK to Malaysia I found a job as a business development and marketing manager in a very aggressive financial industry, which gave me all the skills and confidence to start my first studio in KL called Viva Vertical.
What is your favourite class to teach?
At Trybe we have a program called Full Body Fix / Body Fix 45 (this is also my favourite workout!) where we understand the demands of our client’s lifestyle, during which we teach you how to perform a comprehensive warm-up, mobilise your joints to remain supple before and after intense workouts, and unlock ranges of motions through rehabilitative techniques. The main difference and what I love about teaching this is that we educate our clients about their body’s weaknesses and strengths, and empower them to make a difference.
What is a motto you live by?
Alone we stand, but together we rise. I always believe that people are stronger if they can support one another. My whole life purpose is to support and empower others in a capacity in which I am able, to reach their full potential in hope that they will do the same for others around them.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
The power of manifestation. Imagine and dreaming about things and watching them turn into reality. For example unicorns. How cool would it be to see them run around in the wild?
Santina Philips

Studio: URSUS Fitness (@ursusfitness)
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
Before I opened up URSUS Fitness with my partner Gary Manwaring we ran Strongman/Bear Camp classes on Lamma and other places around HK. People would often spend their weekends island hopping to train with us so eventually, it only made sense to open up our own permanent spot.
What is your favourite class to teach?
My favourite class to teach is our CrossLift class. You won’t find this kind of class anywhere else in HK. It’s similar to CrossFit however it only involves strength sports i.e. Strongman, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting and Kettlebell Sport. What I love about coaching this class is it involves various sports, it’s fun and is great for conditioning!
What is a motto you live by?
Be a badass with a good ass.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
To stop time so I can sleep longer – the early riser trainer life for someone who doesn’t like the mornings is a killer!

Studio: Perform HK @pherformhk
What were you doing before this studio/instructor position?
I was finishing my Master’s degree and started my own fitness business with another coach (Peak Performance).
What is your favourite class to teach?
My favorite class to teach is Sculpt in Pherform and my Peak Performance Bootcamp as we can incorporate weight training in a group class environment, which I find really awesome! We work on targeting specific muscle groups and I find muscle hypertrophy very fun to coach in a class where we can really push each other and get a killer workout done.
What is a motto you live by?
Don’t just workout to add days to your life, workout to add life to your days.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation, no doubt!
