GuavaPass provides members a huge range of different workouts styles that are sure to make you feel fitter and more toned. What a lot of people don’t know is that most studios on GuavaPass are dedicated to increasing your mobility and reducing chronic or muscle pain. A lot of conventional workouts that are weight bearing can build muscle with limited elasticity, often resulting in injuries. Pilates is one of the many styles offered on the GuavaPass platform that elongates and strengthens the muscle whilst promoting joint mobility and flexibility. At My Fitness Pilates, their Pilates classes are based on movements that promote strengthening and flexibility above all else. Their studio holds areas for mat work, reformer classes and chair Pilates, along with personal rehabilitation areas, giving options for every members’ needs.
A variety of pilates styles
The hour-long workout was a combination of mat, resistance and reformer exercises to stretch and tone our bodies through slow and controlled movements. Instructor and My Fitness Pilates owner, May, has built her studio on core strength and rehabilitation methods. Her background in Pilates and strength training is extremely impressive with over 18 years in the practice along with professional dancing since she was 11.
A place for strength, flexibility and recovery
“The studio has been running for more than 6 years now with over 40% of our members coming to us for rehabilitation” she explained. From working with a variety of clients with a range of mobility, joint and muscle injuries, she has “developed a personal style of [Pilates] with methods coming equally from rehabilitation and traditional Pilates workout methods”. May and the team at My Fitness Pilates welcome anyone from any fitness or flexibility level, with their member ages ranging from as 14 years all the way to 85 years old.
A workout that covers every inch of your body
As a result of their extensive knowledge on mobility and strength training, the class was challenging in a lot of ways, and incorporated a great range of styles. Working on strengthening our core and glute muscles, the class used Pilates rings and small exercise balls during our matt work. Moving to the reformer, we were showed the basic movements used to stretch and tone larger muscles in the body like the quads, hamstrings and back.
The class was very easy to follow, with May offering variations for different experience and flexibility levels as we moved through the poses. As far as Pilates goes, this class and other class run by My Fitness Pilates educates you on the correct form and benefits of movements in Pilates and strength training.
