Along with yoga classes and strength-based sessions, GuavaPass members have access to dozens of HIIT classes for morning, afternoon or evening sessions. Circuit or interval training classes are a fantastic way to increase overall fitness and your metabolic rate. Short periods of intensity followed by even shorter periods of rest challenge you aerobic and anaerobic system effectively and efficiently. Classes such as this burns through 30% more calories than your normal workout, whilst giving you a better cardio session. At Equip, their group class was an intense and challenging mix of cardio and strength training, packed with high-intensity, strength building interval stations.
Why everyone should do HIIT
The hour-long class was filled with exercises designed for maximum increase in heart rate with minimum joint impact, making it a perfect option for all fitness levels. In other HIIT classes available on GuavaPass similar to Equip’s, the range and inventiveness of circuit stations are what often makes it more interesting and motivational for members. This morning’s Equip’s Circuit Training class was a small group of 4 held in the class area of the Equip gym.
The key features of any good HIIT class
After a quick mobility workout, there was little stretching before moving straight into the circuits. Our instructor, Brendan, developed and organised an interesting circuit with far more stations than members; always a key feature of a great class. This way, the focus is kept on the wide range of muscles used throughout the class rather than the remaining time or how intense it might be getting.
Every muscle activated over 1 hour
For 1-minute, each member worked at a station, with each interval focusing on a particular muscle group. Some of the exercises included in the workout were deadlifts for the hamstrings, battle ropes for the shoulders, back and biceps, dips to activate the triceps and plank for the abs. Difficulty wise, the class was challenging but is a great start to any morning.
After 2-3 rounds of the 15 circuits that made up the class, the session came to a close with some light stretching and a cool down. Equip’s circuit training was an interesting and well-designed class that I’ll definitely be coming back for again.
