From the training ground of Singapore’s first and only UFC Fighter, Impact MMA holds a number of Muay Thai, Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts classes for all skill levels and experience. At 3 Shenton Way, you can train like a professional at this authentic, old-school style MMA gym. Over the 90-minute session of Martial Arts, the class is trained hard and is taught a range of MMA and Ju Jitsu combinations. From the warm up, throughout the whole class and in the cool down, the trainer incorporates mobility and coordination-based workouts. The class simulates one-on-one combat, giving you a truly authentic MMA experience.
A physical and mental workout
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a fantastic cardio and strength workout. The sport drastically increases flexibility, coordination and overall confidence in the students’ movement. I’ve only done a handful of MMA classes over the past few months and found this easy to follow but seriously challenging.
Your studio, instructor and class
The studio is an authentic space with a fighting ring, a set of free weights and a large floor area for sparring. The class began with our trainer Niko running us through a few drills. In the 30 minutes that followed, a series of mobility moves, cardio exercises and group stretches made sure we were completely ready for the session. As the class partnered up, we began with a lesson in the foundation of hooks, jabs and kicks. His focus on balance and core was the main priority for newcomers and regulars alike, explaining this was where the strength behind each punch or kick comes from.
90 minutes of core, cardio and calisthenics
The class continued with partner work, with drills broken up every few minutes with short exercises like push-ups and squats. Jumping back into the punching sets after this became a little bit harder each time. Throughout the session, the sets became more and more challenging, proving to be a seriously intense and rewarding workout. The 90 minutes came to a close with a number of cool-down drills, stretches and a few final notes on upcoming classes and something each member can work on for next time.
