Whether you’re a lifelong yogi or a newbie to the mat, Basic classes are a great place to ground yourself and explore the foundation poses of yoga. Having done yoga for a few years now, I was excited to push myself in a Basic class at Yoga+. Among the few people who were in the class there were all ranges of experience and flexibility levels, with the instructor varying poses accordingly. The beautiful studio holds 2 high ceilinged rooms with copious natural light and space to move, making it one of the most picturesque studios I’ve visited in a while.
Warrior poses and correct form
Over the 60 minute Basic class, our instructor Bianca walked the class through the foundations of a Vinyasa flow. She educated us on the correct posture for Sun Salutations, various warrior poses and the importance of correcting poor form. Personally, I really enjoyed taking the time within poses to ground myself and correct any usual mistakes in my technique. In doing so, I pushed my body to its maximum by having to maintain position and focus as other members found their stance – it was extremely rewarding as it took my breathing and posture to a new level of commitment.
Build confidence and strength
Bianca maintains a slow pace in these classes, perfect for members to work on their confidence and strength . At the end of the class, she gave members the opportunity to have full expression of previous poses and showed the beginning stages of some wonderfully advanced positions.
Peach tea to finish
After class, stick around with other members and the instructor to share a fresh pot of peach tea provided by the studio. From start to finish, the team at Yoga+ ensure your experience is one of peace and strength, building confidence within your own body and your practice.
Amenities: Towel (for rent), showers, mats
#GuavaTip: The studio is within the market in Chinatown and isn’t the easiest to locate, so head to the corner of Pagoda and South Bridge Road for easier access.
