Last week we caught up with MaxFit owner and trainer Marie – here’s what she had to say about the gym, staying motivated and her favourite cheat meal….
- Tell us a little bit about yourself; what made you decide to open MaxFit?
Well it all began a long time ago when Stefan, my partner, experienced weight issues growing up. He got tired of always being the last one to get picked for a team in any sport and was tired of being bullied for being fat. He then began spending 3-4 hours a day in the gym, determined to lose the weight. A body builder noticed a 17 year old Stefan working hard and decided to take him under his wing. 2 years later Stefan won 3rd place in his first bodybuilding comp. Since then Stefan has been passionate to help others reach and maintain their goals.
I, on the other hand, intended to stay in Thailand for only 6 months to a year, but I met Stefan salsa dancing one evening and as they say the rest is history. Stefan challenged me to share my passion for fitness with others. I loved weight training but really wasn’t convinced I should study and become a trainer too. We then opened MaxFit Bangkok (a take off from the original company Maxfit Performance) because we wanted to offer Bangkok’s first indoor bootcamp. We initially started bootcamps in the park but the security guards and weather was not always receptive to us
- Where did the name MaxFit come from?
Maximum Fitness Performance is our official name which we conveniently shortened to just MaxFit.
- Can you describe briefly what the MaxFit gym philosophy is all about?
We are a results focussed studio. We feel that the original hook to joining any kind of studio is either weight loss or fitness. At MaxFit we focus on the journey and we personalise each journey so our clients can reach their end goal.
- What are your tips on staying motivated?
Stick to your routine; get yourself to the point to where you actually feel bad when missing a workout. Look at a picture, watch a video or read a quote daily to motivate yourself. Find someone who motivates you and is not just a social media model.
- Which MaxFit class would you like to recommend to the Guava community?
The Weight Training Class. It is a more personalised class tailored to your body and fitness level.
- What is your favourite workout?
Burpees and Deadlifts!
***Fun Fact- Marie can do 34 burpees in a minute.
- What is your guilty-pleasure snack food?
Chocolate, anything chocolate.
- When you are not at the studio, where can we find you?
Riding our motorbike off on an adventure somewhere in Thailand or Salsa dancing.
