We all know career and life can get in the way of needed zzz’s, but we also know how essential sleep is to our productivity and overall health. For some of us, we have difficulty getting the recommended 8 hours of sleep a night because of the constant distractions, obligations, and demands of modern life.
Here are some tips to help you get more sleep!
Go back to bedtimes!
Like setting up a meeting, why not set a calendar reminder on your bedtime? Yes, like when you were a child! Set a specific time when you’ll go to sleep at night and calculate the amount of hours from when you usually wake up in the mornings.
Stop or drink less coffee
A lot of people say, “coffee does nothing for me anymore”, but by nature and unarguable science coffee is a stimulant. Different people may have less of a reaction to caffeine, but depending on what you are used to, it will still have an impact on you.
If you are only used to drinking one cup of coffee a day, then try drinking non-caffeinated teas instead.
If you are used to drinking multiple cups of coffee a day, then try drinking less and do not drink any more coffee past lunch time.
Change what you do before bed
With all of the technology and bright screens around us, it’s tremendously difficult not to have the glare of a bright screen be the last thing you see before you shut your eyes, but research has shown these seemingly harmless glares may be the cause of disruption to your beauty rest (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/bright-screens-could-delay-bedtime/).
