We decided to do our New Years Resolutions a bit differently here at GuavaPass Hong Kong. Instead of telling you what they were at the start of the year, and then failing miserably to achieve it, (because let’s face it, this always happens!), this blog post serves as a check-in to see how the month of January went for our team and how far we came to achieve this.
Here are our individual resolutions:
Toni – To obtain a qualification in health and fitness and to do a headstand unaided
Alex – To run 6km without stopping, and to not eat refined sugars for the month
Lexy – Several and undecided, to include “dry” January (she’s ambitious!), meditating, transitioning from a headstand into a handstand etc.
How did we do?
Toni – Obviously this was not something to be achieved overnight but Toni received a certificate of completion from BounceLimit’s first weekend course to become a rebounding instructor. She has also managed to do a headstand without the aid of a wall! Whoop.
Alex – Unfortunately with the horrid weather last month, Alex wasn’t able to run outdoors much, nor attend many of her favourite bootcamp sessions with Circuit 25 at Victoria Park. However despite being surrounded by compulsive office snack eaters, her willpower pulled through and she did not touch any refined sugars, which means there was more for the rest of us!
Lexy – We won’t lie about this little lamb. She had the best intentions and so many ideas for resolutions, we won’t embarrass her and just stop here. Keeping it real people!
Whilst our own individual goals were probably not all that impressive (yes we do work in the industry, but we are by no means fitness experts, just aficionados!), more importantly, as a team we also decide to set some SQUAD GOALS which involved attending a total of 10 classes together as a team, doing a 3-man plank as well as individually holding planks for 3 minutes each. Do check out our early video on Instagram for some epic failed attempts (link here)!
(We note the improper technique – please don’t try this at home!)
We must admit that planking was not our forte. The 3-man proved a bit harder than expected as per the image above (enter co-founder Rob), and we we didn’t quite make it to 3 minutes. However we tried our best and we are proud to say that we accomplished our squad goals by attending a total of 13 group (involving at least 2 of us) classes! Some of our favourite workouts included PowerCore at PilatesAthlete, TorqdeHK at Torq Cycle, Turbo Hit at Ursus Fitness, Aerial Hoop with Aerial Arts Academy, Surfset Blend with SURFSET and yoga with Charlotte Johnson.
We thoroughly enjoyed our January Team Workout Challenge and we highly recommend that you bring a buddy along to your classes, if not only for comedy value but for support, to get you psyched up and help you achieve your personal best! Don’t worry if you didn’t get off to a good start in January, you can redeem yourself for CNY!
It’s been a great start to 2016 and we are fired up for the rest of the year! Wishing everyone a healthy and prosperous New Year ahead! Kung Hei Fat Choy!
With love from GuavaPass Hong Kong – A-TEAM! X
